Caring for cuts and grazes

Life's a big adventure for children and little accidents are a part of growing up strong and healthy. When treating children's wounds, the basic common-sense rules apply. So keep calm and always wash your hands before you make a start.

Some simple steps for treating children’s wounds:

  • Explain what you're doing - children need to know what's going on to feel reassured.

  • A minor wound will soonstop bleeding. If it doesn't, apply a little pressure to the spot with a non stick wound pad. Try Elastoplast Soft Feel Compress which will also reduce the risk of infection.

  • If the bleeding still continues, keep the pressure on and apply more dressing.

  • If anything is embedded under the skin, leave it alone, then visit your GP.

  • Always wipe away from the wound to avoid infection.

  • Let the area dry and then use a children's adhesive plaster such as Elastoplast's Shrek© plasters which are skin friendly and are easy to remove.

  • A cuddle and a kiss can work wonders too!
